Washington, D.C–

There have been quite a few games where the Wizards have deserved to win based on their play in the first half, however that’s when the second half woes have continued and especially the fourth quarter. Tonight, the Wizards had several double-digit leads going int the fourth quarter and just as they have done on quite a few occasions this season, the opponent makes a fourth quarter run.

Despite a late run by Brooklyn, the Wizards were able to get their own run going and able to grab their first victory of the New Year, 119-99.

The Wizards were led by Julian Champagnie, who scored a season high 20 points and seems to have found his groove and has become a solid player off the bench and one that the Wizards can go to and use his size inside late in the game.

Alex Sarr added 19 points and CJ McCollum scored 17 for the Wizards, who still have the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference (9-23) but have won four out of five for the first time since Feb. 8-16, 2023.

Brooklyn got within nine later in the second and third quarters before Washington stretched its lead to 23 by the end of the third and 28 early in the fourth.

The Wizards seemed to have found a good combo of veteran and the young guy scoring late in the game that has made the difference these last few home games.

Washington will have another tough team coming to town on Sunday when they face Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves on Sunday.
