Springfield, VA–
It’s not every day that you see two professional teams from the same city win a championship for their league, but how about the course of a couple of hours. That is what happened today in both the WLL and the PLL as both the Boston Cannons of the PLL and the Boston Charm of the WLL took home the hardware.
In the first game of the day, the Boston Charm led by their superstar, Charlotte North came to play, but it wasn’t as easy as they thought it would be at the end.
Izzy Scane led the Charging’s comeback bid with seven points (6G, 1A), but her efforts weren’t enough to turn the tide. Meg Tyrrell (3G, 1A) and Meg Carney (2G, 2A) had four-point outings, and Emily Hawryschuk’s two goals helped secure her the Golden Stick Award.
In the semifinals, Hawryschuk’s 7 goals was one of the main reasons that the Charging would move on to play Boston today. However, the defense from Boston would prove to be too much for quite a few of their players.
“Cassidy Weeks and Dempsey Arsenault are two of the best midfielders that have ever existed in our game,” North said. “We talked about when they would send a slide when they might not send a slide, and Dempsey is one of the best dodgers, as well as one of the best midfielders, and I knew she was going to own her matchup all day long. And to see that happen was pretty special.”
In the second game of the day the Boston Cannons, who are no stranger to championships, as they were the 2024 Champions, took home the hardware again today.
Boston beat the Archers 21-14 on Monday and became the first team to win back-to-back PLL Championship Series finals.
“That’s what this is all about,” Brian Holman said. “I couldn’t be more proud. I’m very grateful to be part of this and of those guys. I just appreciate the effort. That’s what we talk about as Cannons: effort, attitude, toughness. All of that was on display today.”
