Washington, D.C–
Today was the day that so many Caps fans hoped would happen. The biggest question was when? In a place where a team that built in a many different ways 17 years ago when the Caps drafted Alex Ovechkin, it just seemed like that would never happen and Ovie was going to eventually either leave or retire a Caps player without one thing, that big silver cup. Well the wait is no more and today the wait for a parade through the city is no more either.
When we first started covering the Caps in the 1997-98 season and while we had a small hiatus due to lack of number of people checking out articles regarding the Washington Capitals, that all changed over the past few years as the Caps have come back into glory and they have set themselves in history culminating with the huge celebration today on the National Mall with Ovechkin stating “We’re Not Gonna Be Fucking Suck This Year.” Can’t think of a better way to close out the season with these words and We Are the Champions Playing one more time.
One thing about this team is every player has talked about the effort from each player and showing that they are all about making it happen again next season and having fans chant BACK TO BACK, you can tell they are serious about it.
“Every time I’m driving on Constitution, for the rest of my life, I am going to remember this day,” Caps Goalie Braden Holtby told the crowd that was already fired up from all of the other players bringing the energy.
Caps majority owner, Ted Leonsis spoke regarding the success of the team.
” Now we have something that bonds us,” a Stanley Cup, said Leonsis.
