Washington, D.C–

Sometimes the word O’fer became a common practice in conversation of Washington Sports, well tonight Washington Capitals just took that and moved it aside as they advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in the Ovie years.

Since the Capitals closed out the Ottawa Senators in Game 5 of their second-round series in 1998 to advance to the Eastern Conference finals, the Capitals, Nationals, Redskins and Wizards have combined to go 0-13 in games that would have clinched a conference final berth. The Capitals have lost six such games, the Nationals four, the Redskins two and the Wizards one.

For those who said this team was different this year, well they actually meant it. It’s a bunch of guys that at the beginning of the season that as Ovie said wouldn’t suck, didn’t suck when it really mattered. They have through multiple players this season finally gotten all of the right breaks they needed to move on.

Next up for the Caps come a date with the Tampa Bay Lightning, who rolled in their first round and will be well rested when it comes to Game 1.
