Washington, D.C–

We have talked about how this Mystics team has been a slow starter all season long and again today, they showed they have started to put those days behind them as they got out an early lead on Dallas and eventually finished them off in overtime, 91-88.

Sonia Citron continues to emerge as leader for the Mystics and today she got it done when it most mattered. With 12.2 seconds remaining in the OT period, Citron took the ball and launched a three ball, and it was all the Mystics needed to take the final lead of the game.

Citron made 9 of 13 from the field, hit a career-best four 3-pointers and had a season-high 11 rebounds.

Despite the solid play by Citron late in the game, the Mystics had troubles of their own with their bench just not helping many of the starters in the first half it allowed for the Wings to climb back in the game quickly and make it game later with Paige Bueckers sending the game to overtime with 11 seconds remaining.

Things also got pretty heated during the game as Mystics Head Coach Sydney Johnson came running out on the court in the second quarter and was hit with a technical foul that caused him to boil over after a series of calls were missed during the first Dallas run before the half. This would be the first of three technical fouls called during the game that also featured 73 free-throw attempts between both teams

Arike Ogunbowale led the way for the Wings with 27 points and Bueckers added 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

Ogunbowale hit three 3s as she scored 14 of Dallas’ 31 second-quarter points to help the Wings take a 45-40 lead into halftime. Washington committed eight turnovers in the period.

Next up for the Mystics is a visit from Minnesota on Tuesday night at ESA. The red-hot Lynx team comes to D.C in first place in the Western Conference with their one loss coming at the hands of Seattle this past Wednesday.
