Fairfax, VA —

It was billed as one of the biggest match-ups of the season, Monica Abbott versus Cat Osterman and by the end of the game it ended up being one of the best NPF Games to date as Abbott took her team into extra innings and stole a 3-2 victory from second place Rockford.

Osterman who is the Under Armour softball superstar seemed to take the easy way out of tonights game when Rockford Head Coach decided to pull Osterman and not allow her to take the possible loss to Abbott in the ninth inning.

The Glory got to Osterman early when Oli Keohohou hit a towering shot into the trees for a early 1-0 lead. Pinch hitter Jessica Moore hit a monsterous homerun over the left field wall, to take back the lead from Rockford 2-1.

In the 10th inning, the international rule came into play as each team started the inning with their last out placed at second base.

Amanda Williams led off the Rockford half of the tenth with a sacrafice bunt to third base. With one out, Erin Evans laid down a squeeze bunt to third but Sara Larquier’s throw to catcher Germaine Fairchild was in time, and Lindsay Gardner was tagged out. Abbott then struck out Jessica Williams to end the inning.

Starting in the 10th for the Glory, Fairchild was placed at second base per the rules. Ladonia Hughes led off the inning with an infield single but Fairchild remained at second. Kelly Kretschman then drew a walk off reliever Serena Settlemier loading the bases with no outs. Nicole Barber followed; reaching on a fielder’s choice but Fairchild was forced out at home. Keohohou, who homered in the first inning, hit a dribbler that rolled just in front of the place, but far enough to allow LaDonia Hughes to score from third to win the game.

After the game, the Glory players remained on the field for well over an hour for to sign autographs for the record crowd on hand, none of which left this game early.
