Washington, D.C–

Ever since Midnight Madness a few weeks ago, the Georgetown Hoyas and Patrick Ewing have been looking to get on the court and show off some of their new talent. Tonight was the night for new faces, new court and new season and UMES was the newest victim to Ewing’s 2018-19 troops. There is plenty of talent on this team to include the human highlight reel in Mac McClung, but they must make sure all of the guys are able to pick up the slack that has been missing the past couple of seasons of letdown for the Hoyas.

The guy who has been talking about this season for months on Instagram, Jesse Govan, led the way for the Hoya with 13 points, freshman Josh LeBlanc had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Georgetown beat Maryland Eastern Shore 68-53.

“We just had to get these guys out on the court and get them comfortable in a real game, said Hoyas Head Coach Patrick Ewing. They have been ready for weeks and we are excited about the prospects of what this team will be able to do come time we open our Big East schedule.”

While the final score may reflect that UMES stayed in the game, it was never actually close.

Georgetown led 31-21 at halftime with 10 points from Govan, who averaged 17.9 points and 10 rebounds last year. The Hoyas‘ lead reached 19 early in the second half and they led by double figures the rest of the game.

A.J. Cheeseman scored 19 points in his debut for UMES. Ryan Andino was 2 of 11 from 3-point range and UMES was 4 of 23.

The Hoyas are back on the hardwood on Saturday night as they face another woe of an opponent in Central Connecticut.
