Glory Claim First Playoff Victory of NPF Playoffs Behind No Hitter From Monica Abbott

KImberly, WI —

Just like the first time that Monica Abbott and Cat Osterman faced each other, it was a pitchers duel and today in the first round of the NPF Playoffs, Monica Abbott and the Washington Glory faced the Rockford Thunder and again the Glory emerged victorious with a 4-0 no hit victory.

Abbott threw to 22 batters, allowing only two batters, Mackenzie Vandergeest, hit by pitch, and Amanda Freed, walk to reach base in striking out 13 total batterson the day. She threw 61 of 97 pitches for strikes and again found a way to make the Thunder batters struggle to get their bats going.

Sara Larquier opened the game wide with two more in the fourth when she blasted her first home run of the playoffs giving the Glory a 3-0 lead that was later increased to 4-0 after Nichole Thompson scored on an errant throw by Rockford’s Serena Settlemier.

Abbott retired Jackie Wong ending the sixth inning and giving the Glory all of the momentum they would need heading into the seventh. Abbott then struck out the first two of the seventh before allowing the walk to Amanda Freed then striking out Vandergeest taking the first game of the NPF Playoffs.

Washington will now face the New England Riptide in their second game tonight at 7:45pm and with a victory would secure their spot in the afternoon game for the NPF Championship Title.
