Scottsdale, AZ–

Its the weekend of the Phoenix Open here in Scottsdale, where any outfit goes outside or around the course, apparently that’s not the case in Dubai for one golfer, Paige Spiranac, who was faced with death threats after cleavage bearing photos appeared from the 2015 Dubai Masters, which she was invited to play.

“I was harassed, my family was harassed, all while I was trying to play, she said. She was also angered by the statement that it was her appearance that helped her earn the invitation to play.

She has come under a lot of fire because she does not rank in the Top 1000 players for her sport, yet she was invited over many other players that were just as qualified and even had a ranking on the LPGA Tour.

So was it because she has 1.2 million followers on Twitter that she was invited? The question looms. It also loomed as to why she was invited to play in the Pro-Am tournament for the Quicken Loans Open in D.C , when other guests in the tournament were picked mostly from local sports celebrities. Sprianac definitely had the largest crowd following her around for that round this past summer.

No matter what the death threats for an image that amounted to little or nothing for most people seem way out of context for the 24 year old from Colorado, who has spoken out many of times for new reforms of how women are able to dress on the course. What is too sexy or too much for some peoples eyes? Lets, say there are plenty more out there doing the same with less issues.

She has also a positive side that many have missed, that includes her stand on anti-bullying and women’s causes. She also claims that she shouldn’t be held accountable for the way she dresses, but yet rather he accomplishments as a golfer.

“It’s a shame people look at me one way, but we are athletes and we should be looked at for what we do as athletes, not how we choose to dress from one day to the next. What people see on social media, is not what I am as an athlete and they need to remember that first.”

Spiranac returned to Dubai this week to play with Rory McElroy in the Dubai Desert Classic. Plenty of positive images were found on her Instagram and she seemed to dress like any other golfer you would see on the LPGA Tour, but said that was not in response from what has stemmed from the 2015 incident.
