Hoyas Get 4th Seed in NIT Tournament, Play First Round Game at Verizon Center

Washington, D.C—

Well it looks like the Hoyas will live to see one more day of their home court as the NIT folks gave them a shot a high seed in the tournament and with the 4th seed they will face old Big East Conference rivals in West Virginia.

The Mountaineers were the very last team in the NIT bracket to be revealed, but as West Virginia continues into post-season play in 2014, the banged up Hoyas will be hungry after that disappointing loss to DePaul. Will this be like the old down to the wire battles prior to a few seasons ago? Possibly, but these are two different teams heading in two different directions.

With Hoyas getting a 4 seed, it will be up to them to beat the West Virginia and hope the #8 seed Florida Gulf Coast can upset the quadrant’s #1 seed Florida State and that would mean another home game for the Hoyas later in the week.

Here is the seeding breakdown for the “Florida State Bracket” that the Hoyas are playing in:

  • 1 – Florida State
  • 8 – Florida Gulf Coast
  • 4 – Georgetown
  • 5 – West Virginia
  • 3 – Louisiana Tech
  • 6 – Iona
  • 2 – Georgia
  • 7 – Vermont
