New York, NY–

There have been quite a few ups and downs in the 3 years of the Ed Cooley Georgetown coaching era. Tonight, one of those ups was one of the biggest things to happen to this program since 2021, a first round Big East Tournament over DePaul.

It wasn’t a pretty finish, but it was a core defensive effort that the Hoyas have been known for that got the job done in the final minutes of the second half.

Hoyas center Vince Iwuchukwu had another solid performance finishing with 17 points and after the game he said his motivation was that he had been slighted in some of the Big East post season awards and he wanted everyone to be put on notice that he will carry this Hoyas team on his back if he needs to.

Malik Mack and Jeremiah Williams posted 17 and 16 points, which was a big help was the remainder of the Hoyas starting offensive struggled for most of the game.

The Hoyas continued to struggle from long distance making just 3 of 14 three pointers tonight. They will need to work on those numbers if they expect to stay close in the game tomorrow night against Villanova.

DePaul really struggled to make anything happen during the final four minutes of the second half. After the three-point shot by RJ Smith, DePaul was able to cut the lead 3 points at 48-45, this was as close as they would get the remainder of the game.

So, for the first time since 2021, the Hoyas live to see another day. Can they find the way to do the improbable tomorrow night?
