Washington. D.C–
There have been quite a few games over the past few weeks that the Hoyas very well could have won based on either their first or second half performance. Tonight was the first. The tail of two teams hit the Hoyas later in the second half of a 76-67 loss to Seton Hall tonight.
The low scoring affair had the game tied at 29 at the half and they really didn’t have any players that made a huge difference tonight when they needed to. Malik Mack scored 14 points Isaiah Abraham scored 13 points and Vincent Iwuchukwu finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
The Hoyas made some decisive mistakes in the second half that allowed the Pirates to get out to a 13-0 run and the once Hoyas 3-point lead was all but gone for the remainder of the game
Seton Hall hit a crucial defensive stretch late, holding Georgetown scoreless for nearly 6 minutes as the Pirates built a double-digit lead.
After the game Hoyas Head Coach Ed Cooley took quite a bit of the blame for where this team was tonight and what they need to do going forward.
“We may not be where we need to be record wise, but I know I have a talented group that needs to be a little bit more disciplined. I think we have a tough group that has to be a little bit more disciplined … I got to pick our group up, ” said Cooley.
Adam Clark led the scoring for the Pirates with 22 points on 6-for-12 shooting and a 10-for-12 performance from the charity stripe. Tajuan Simpkins followed with 17 points and Trey Parker rounded out the Pirates in double figures with 12.
Georgetown shot 33.9% from the field, the worst of the season.
The Hoyas have big week coming up as they head on the road to Creighton on Tuesday night before they return home next Saturday to face the #4 ranked Huskies.
Needless to say, the Hoyas sit at 1-4 in conference play and they are dire need to get a victory before this season becomes another wash.
