Syracuse, NY–

The Hoya fans have been asking when this team is going to win a meaningful game and show us that they are ready to move forward in the Ed Cooley era, well that day was today in Syracuse as they juiced the orange late in the game for a 75-71 victory.

While there are a lot who say this current ACC based Syracuse team is not the same one that was in the Big East all of those years, but it’s still one of the biggest victories for Ed Cooley in the past two years and finally a way to say he has the players to compete against these other “major” basketball programs.

Jayden Epps may have had his best game at Georgetown so far finishing with 27 points, but most importantly taking over in crunch time with his lay-up with 22 seconds remaining in the game. Epps also had a key lay-up with 3:30 remaining to give the Hoyas a 70-69 lead.

Epps made 11 of 15 shots, including 4 of 6 3-pointers, and he made his only free-throw attempt. Thomas Sorber had 16 points and Micah Peavy had 12 points and nine rebounds. Mack had nine points, eight assists and six assists for the Hoyas (8-2).

“I mean, I can talk about Georgetown, you know, which it’s by far the best win we’ve had since I’ve been the coach here, right in a rivalry game, a heated game, an exciting game, two teams still trying to find their identity … It felt exactly like a BIG EAST game, and we liked it. It was, I love the BIG EAST dog. I absolutely love the BIG EAST and that’s what it felt like in here,” said Hoyas Head Coach Ed Cooley.

Eddie Lampkin had 18 points, Carlos and Jyare Davis 15 each, and Elijah Moore 10 for Syracuse (5-5).

Georgetown opens Big East play on Wednesday night against Creighton before travelling to Seton Hall on Sunday for its first back-to-back conference play of the season.
