Dallas, TX–

When I woke up in my condo two blocks from the American Airlines Center or AAC as everyone knows it, I was like what just happened? Did someone die overnight? No, it was just the death of the biggest Superstar to hit Dallas since Emmitt Smith… Luka Gone!

While I grew up in the Baltimore area and remember what Art Modell did, there.. this had the same feeling. Like the Mavs ripped the heart out of Dallas and up and left town with their superstar. Who actually knows what to make of this entire scenario? Either way, we have a banged-up Anthony Davis heading our way from the Lakers and a team of uncertainty going forward.

So, who is to blame here? Is there something we don’t know. Even analyst Charles Barkley questioned the decision and why Luka would take away an opportunity to a super max contract for next season that now guarantees him to lose at least $110 million in the deal. Certainly, in the time of players seeking out the money that seems seem to suit them best, Doncic wouldn’t take away the chance to make the big dollars. Or is it that LeBron could be on his way out and Doncic could be the new face of the franchise? But with that roster why? What did Mark Cuban say about this one? Since he isn’t the man over there anymore, could this bonehead move been suggested to the Adelman family?

Cuban told WFAA today in Dallas that he was not involved with the massive three-team trade that sent Doncic to the Lakers and Anthony Davis to the Mavericks. Although he remains a minority owner of the team, Cuban has stepped back from day-to-day basketball operations since the Adelson family acquired majority control in late 2023.

The trade itself was driven primarily by Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison, who reportedly made the call to shift the franchise’s direction, even though it appeared out of fear of Doncic potentially leaving the club in 2026, when his deal was set to expire if he opted out of a 2026-27 player option worth about $49 million, as he was and still is likely to do for a long-term deal.

We will have to see how this works out, as Dallas will have a lot to answer in the offseason, but for now folks, enjoy the Kyrie and AD show in Dallas, because today in Cleveland without AD, the Mavs had a tough go dropping one of their worst efforts of the season.
