College Park, MD–

The 2025-26 campaign for the Maryland has closed for Maryland Basketball and clearly for quite a few people it was not the season anyone wanted or frankly actually anyone wants to remember going forward.

Okay, we did have some great moments at Xfinity brought to you by Diggy Coit, but outside of those 40-point games there was little to be desired since Pharrel Payne went down with an injury and had to miss the remainder of the season. Just this week many notable Maryland alum have commented on the direction of this team and if Buzz Williams really is the guy in College Park.

ESPN Sports Center Host Scott Van Pelt called Maryland’s 21 losses this season, “Unacceptable.” While he has always been one of the Terps biggest supporters as a notable alum, he has never really spoken out on the team until now and he believes that there needs to be big changes in order for this team to move forward.

Maryland’s biggest issue is how will the transfer portal pan out for them? Buzz has several commits that with a healthy Payne, should he return, will make a difference in the size and loss of Elijah Saunders and Solomon this off season. The big question for next year is how will top commit Baba Oladotun pan out and will they rely on a guy that spent some of his time injured in his Senior season at Blake High School. Let’s put it this way, the Big Ten is quite a bit different than playing teams in Montgomery County, MD.

Buzz was asked a bit after the loss to Iowa about his offseason plans and thoughts of what it would take to get the Terps out of the cellar.

It’s probably a little too early for me to give a comprehensive answer to it, said Williams. Some of the things are always going to be in your control. Some of the things are not going to be in your control. I don’t. I don’t think an emotional answer for such a broad question is probably the right thing,” he said.

Over the next couple weeks as the NCAA season winds down with the Final Four, expect there to be a little more information coming out of College Park as to who might stick around and who might leave.
