College Park, MD–
It has been a bit of a rocky few weeks for the Terps of late, but today the Lady Terps played one of their best games in weeks and on Senior Day were able to send them out with a 77-62 victory Penn State.
The game today would also mark the first time that Penn State transfer Ashley Owusu returned to College Park since she left for Virginia Tech. She finished with just 7 points.
The big difference in the game today was Maryland put up its best defensive effort of the season held Penn State to a season-low 62 points. That combined with a career day from Jakia Brown-Turner, who scored 32 points. Penn State turned it over 26 times, tied for their season high.
Not only was Sunday’s victory a win over another NCAA tournament hopeful, but it bumped Maryland all the way up to sixth in the conference, ahead of Michigan and Penn State.
It also qualified as a Quad 1 win, as Penn State sat at No. 26 in the NET rankings entering today’s matchup. Now, the Terps might be sitting on the right side of the NCAA tournament bubble with four games left in the regular season.
This game was a huge turnaround from just a few weeks ago when the Terps previously lost at Penn State 112-76 on January 28th.
“We played a great game today and I think these girls understand what is at stake at this point. We have a couple more tough games and then we have to be ready for the Big Ten Tournament in a few weeks, said Terps Head Coach Brenda Frese.
