Washington, D.C–

For the second time in just a week, the Dallas Wings come to D.C to face the Mystics and the result is a fierce team that sends them back west with another loss.

Tonight the Mystics didn’t come out playing their best basketball and trailed at the half and even looked out of the game at the end of the third quarter when they trailed, 75-56 with 3:00 remaining in third quarter.

When the fourth quarter rolled around Shakira Austin took over and fueled was one of the main reasons that the Mystics were even able to take the Wings down to the wire. Austin finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds and over the past two games, she has owned the Wings defense.

Sonia Citron and Georgia Amoore each scored 12 points for Washington (17-12). Kiki Iriafen added 11 and Michaela Onyenwere had 10.

Washington has had some solid play off the bench the last few games from the bench fueled by Cotie McMahon who’s three-point play with three minutes left in the game was the first lead they had the entire game.

For fans that were at the last game this past Friday against the Wings, they will remember the altercation the court between McMahon and Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale briefly got into it after a hard foul, but the energy and fire in the Mystics offense led to them taking the first victory from the Wings.

With the win tonight, the Mystics improve to 17-12 on the season and also the winning streak continues at 5 games. Two big games to end the week against Angel Reese and Atlanta on Friday night and Kelsey Plum and the Phoenix come to town. If they can grab these two wins, they should be able to control their own destiny for the upcoming playoffs starting in September.
