Washington, D.C–

With one final chance to make some tune-ups before the start of the regular season on May 19th, the Mystics came out strong early in a 88-76 victory over the Atlanta Dream.

Elena Delle Donne led the way for the Mystics with 17 points along with 13 points from Brittany Sykes, who was limited in her playing time with foul trouble in the second half.

One of the biggest surprises of the afternoon matinee game was the play from Emily Engstler, who had 11 points and 8 rebounds of the bench, which was thin with Shakira Austin and Kristi Toliver unavailable for today’s game.

The Dream have who had two first round draft picks in Haley Jones and Leticia Amihere, both combined for 13 points and 8 rebounds.

For the Mystics, their next big task is getting the team down to 12 players before next week. It should be interesting to see the team gels after going 1-1 on the preseason. What do they need to make this team a solid contender? Can they a deep enough bench to compete with teams like the Liberty in the East, who the Mystics will open the season against on May 19th?
