Earlier in the season there were a lot of people that had low expectations for the youngest team in the WNBA, but today, youth seems to be the winning ingredient as the Mystics win their 7th straight game in a row with a 95-75 victory over the Phoenix Mercury.
Washington continues to feature two of the best players in the WNBA in Sonia Citron and Shakira Austin. Both of these players are giving opposing teams problems late in the game and Austin tonight continues to take over games in the second half and this afternoon finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way for the Mystics.
Michaela Onyenwere and Cotie McMahon scored 13 points apiece for the Mystics (19-12). Kiki Iriafen had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Phoenix who has seen its share of problems this season has won just 12 games, but has since added Kelsey Plum and that 20 plus points a game could be the way they creep back into the playoffs, although they need more than just Plum, they need Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner to contribute if they want to have a shot to even touch the ball in the playoffs.
Washington has its biggest test coming up as they travel Las Vegas coming up this week and they will face the Aces in back-to-back games.
