Washington D.C–
Spring has officially Sprung in D.C and so have the 2025 Washington Mystics. This is a whole new look Mystics team from last year.. from the front office to the Head Coach and plenty of new faces, could this be the year that we finally have some noise from D.C again?
Earlier in the New Year the Mystics announced that they would be relocating 4 games away from ESA. Washington’s July 10 game against the Las Vegas Aces at 7:30 p.m. will now take place at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia, an arena managed by Monumental Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of the Mystics. The May 28 game against the Indiana Fever at 7:30 p.m. and September 7 game, also against the Fever at 3:00 p.m., will be held at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. Additionally, the Mystics’ annual Camp Day game against the Chicago Sky on July 8 at 11:30 a.m. will also be played at EagleBank Arena, as previously announced. All four games will be broadcast on Monumental Sports Network and Monumental+
With all of the new faces… where do we start with expectations for this team? Well there are quite a few names that have the potential to make noise from the very first pre-season game taking place against non-other than Caitlin Clark and the Fever this weekend in Indy.
Our first pick to make a huge difference on this team is Georgia Amoore. If you watched what she did while she was at Virginia Tech and then what she did after transferring to Kentucky, this is that player… Trust us on this one.
Amoore joined Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark as the only D-I women’s basketball players to record at least 2,300 points and 800 assists. She is that point guard who has range and the ability to find the open player the Mystics have been missing for really the past two seasons.
Next up… Sonia Citron. Her size and three-point threat give the Mystics some of the best depth they have had in the front court in years. Combine that with the hardnosed Brittany Sykes baller walking stat and there are quite a few opponents that will have to mark the Mystics on their schedule as quite a few players to watch this year.
One of the biggest additions for the Mystics is Sydney Johnson. This guy is no stranger to the D.C area previously coaching as an assistant with Georgetown and last year with the Chicago Sky. This is a big improvement on the lackluster leadership at the helm last year.
“We want to win basketball games,” expressed Johnson. “We want this to be home where players can find themselves and really want to be here.”
Look for big things from this team this season and no longer finishing at the bottom of the WNBA.
