Washington, D.C–

In the second day of a back-to-back for the Mystics, it was the second half of this game where you could tell the team was a bit tired as the Mercury streaked to an 88-72 victory tonight.

The big difference in this game during the second half was Alyssa Thomas. She continues to show why she is one of the best players in the WNBA and clearly an All Star finishing the night with 27 points.

Washington really never got going in the third quarter and that was the deciding factor late in this game. Phoenix outscored Washington 26-12 in the third quarter for a 10-point lead and pushed the advantage to 17 early in the fourth quarter. The Mystics went on a 9-0 run but the Mercury then scored eight straight to secure the game.

Shakira Austin led the Mystics with 20 points, eight boards and two blocks.

The slip in play over the past two games for the Mystics has them falling 1.5 games behind Indiana in the playoff race.

“I have a lot of confidence in this team, and we have lot of basketball left this season,” said Mystics Head Coach Sydney Johnson.

Johnson will have his work cut out for him as the Mystics have two games at home this week and then have 5 out of the next 6 games on the road.
