The Washington Mystics had a solid run of two weeks… and well it appears they have run into a brick wall lately when it comes to offense. Tonight, was no different as Golden State hold the Mystics to an 18 for 60 shooting effort and just 49 points.
Golden State took over the second half of this game holding the Mystics to just 16 points after they led the game 33-31.
Golden State’s reserves scored 39 points. The Valkyries shot 35.1% from the field and went 4-for-4 on free throws and yet they ended up with the widest margin of victory during their streak. Kaitlyn Chen made six of her nine attempts from the floor and also led her team with four assists.
Washington’s point total marked the fewest for a Golden State opponent in franchise history. It’s also the first time this season that a WNBA team was held to fewer than 50 points.
Washington has continued to struggle without Sonia Citron in the line-up. She missed another game tonight with knee soreness. Without Citron, the Mystics have relied on a huge dose of Kiki Iriafen and Shakira Austin, but both players combined for just 20 points on 9 for 23 from the field.
Next up for the Mystics is Seattle on Sunday. Seattle is struggling this season at 5-17 and perhaps this is exactly what the Mystics need to get back on track.
