Oakley Fall/Winter 2011 Apparel Collections, Gear Up for Style and Performance

As our staff has done for the past several years with the Oakley apparel, sunglasses and accessories, we have aimed to find the hottest gear for each season through reader recommendations and the simple pleasure of finding what would look best on each one of our staff members. This time we look at the Fall and Winter collection, where Oakley will have you ready to stay fly and ready to hit the slopes as well.

Our choice for the total winter apparel package comes from Oakley. They have something that will be a gift that both men and women will appreciate.

The must haves from Oakley include are their men’s Car Ports hoodie which a great way to dress stylish in three different colors with an edge for $70.00.  This is a great combination of dress and casual wear all wrapped up into one cool hoodie that can easily be worn with their Long Sleeve Hyper Woven Shirts that are available in two colors that match extremely well with their Car Ports selections. We also found the Hyper Woven Shirts to be extremely fit and run more of the tapered slim cut than traditional dress shirts. We recommend at least one size up as our normal reviewers wear Large in dress shirts, but this XL shirt was a perfect fit and did not fit too tight across the chest leaving any unwanted pulling at the buttons.

If you have a skier or snowboarder in the family who loves the slopes as much as you do, try the Sethmo Base layer shirt for him. This base layer long sleeve shirt is inspired by Powder Magazine’s most influential skier of all time, Seth Morrison. If you are one of the best in the business like Seth, you demand the best for your gear and comfort. For comfort this gets a 15 on our scale of 1 to 10 because of the 100 percent merino wool and the looks aren’t too bad either as the shirt is available in three different colors to match some of the pants and jackets in his line of apparel. Each shirt is available in S-XXL sizes for $120.00. We found that after ten washes after wearing it our recent cold spell the shirt held up very well with little fading in colors with a cold water wash and in fact it seemed softer to the touch after just five trips to the wash machine. Slip your thumb through the Lycra thumbhole on each cuff and you will be ready to toss on the gloves and hit the slopes in no time. Or battle the elements the way you should if you just want to be the cool guy.

Another must have for that hot snowboarding chick look, are the Blocks Pants. These pants simply protect against all of the elements. Can you say Thinsluate and 60 grams of it. That is comfort at an amazing level and not a bunch of bulkiness from all of the extra weight. These pants come with 15K mm waterproofing with 15K g/m2/24hrs breathability and fully tape-welded seams. So they are not letting any of that manmade snow in the East or powder in the West when you decide to take your first tumble.  We were able to get these on the slopes the first couple days of December in Western Maryland and with a recent cold spell dropping temps in the lower teens, night skiing just became that much more enjoyable.

We tried to get the pants to take on the elements by falling more than necessary and they wouldn’t budge to let in the moisture. You will be plenty of warm in the Blocks Pants, the only thing you will need to do is wash the sweat from them, because you will be very warm, that is for sure. This is a great investment for any skier or snowboarder in the family at $240.00

For those who just want to lounge around but have that ultra chill and relaxed look just like Gretchen Biler, then we suggest checking out GB cardi sweater, which definitely says check me out when you put it on. This comes in two colors, red and graphite and is suitable for laying around the house or a night on the ski-town.

We liked the oversized buttons on the sweater as well as the length. It will keep you warm with a sweater knit and a bonded fleece backing for extra comfort. It has a unique cowl neckline and the dropped seams where the sleeves attach definitely going to garner you a few more looks at the bar of the ski lodge. We will guarantee you will stay warm. Pick one up for $120.00.

Once again, we were wowed by the stylish looks and the quality of the Oakley products. We like their design team of young on the edge athletes and professionals that always want you on top of your game. Whether you want to dress casual at the office next Friday or just prepare for a weekend on the slopes, we can guarantee that Oakley is going to start your day off right.
