Indianapolis, IN–
WNBA All Star weekend kicked off tonight in Indianapolis and it definitely didn’t disappoint for anyone who was cheering on the New York Liberty players, because it was Natasha Cloud and Sabrina Ionescu that stole the show tonight.
Cloud started the night winning the skills challenge. Her first round of 34.1 seconds set the tone for the evening and set her for a good chance to knock out last year’s winner Alisha Gray and she did just that and knocking out former hometown favorite Erika Wheeler.
Sabrina Ionescu still put on an absolute clinic tonight. Her 30 points in the final is the second-highest scoring round all-time in a WNBA 3-point shootout.
“I feel like we put on a great show,” Ionescu tells ESPN after receiving her trophy. “We feed off the energy here and super excited to bring All-Star weekend here to Indy.
“I’m pretty disappointed. I felt like I missed a few easy ones late there that I feel like I could have made, so I’m sorry about that. Just happy to be here and happy to have one with my teammate, Natasha Cloud, winning the skills competition as well! … On Tuesday, we play (the Fever), so wish us luck!”
