Irving, TX–
The last couple of days of weather in the Dallas area left some question as to whether Round 1 of the AT&T Bryon Nelson would even get off to a start in Thursday play. After a 1.5 hour rain delay, the first round featured Players such as Sergio Garcia stepping to the front of the pack finishing his round at -7 under 63 to lead the way tied with two other players Danny Lee and Johnson Wagner.
Jordan Spieth who teed off later in the day finished his round right in the thick of the pack at -6 under 64. He will get an early start tomorrow and look for him to be a favorite to chase the leaders as he has had a lot of luck on this course coming into the tournament.
Spieth’s highlight of the day was a 23-foot chip shot for birdie on the par-4 1st hole.
Local favorite Colt Knost who had one of his best tournaments of the season last week at the Players Championship, finished tied for 86th with an even 70.
“The conditions were a little challenging out there today, but the course was in great shape over all considering how much rain we have the past two weeks, tomorrow the greens should be a little better,” said Knost.
