Baltimore, MD–
Today the Mystics had the chance to do one thing that could be remembered in this up and down season, help keep Indiana out of the playoffs with a victory… well it was the exact opposite of that late in the game as the Fever now secure a playoff spot with a 94-65 victory.
Washington kept the Caitlin Clark less Fever within range most of the game and it was close at the half where they trailed by just 7 points at 45-38… then the second half rolled around the Fever looked like the better team.
Washington had just nine points in the third quarter which allowed for the Fever open up a double-digit lead. They extended the margin to as high as 33 points en route to victory.
The bright spot for the Mystics today was that Sonia Citron became the all-time single season scoring leader with 17 points. She continued her push for rookie of the year candidate averaging 14.9 points per game.
Indiana has snagged consecutive postseason berths for the first time since making it each year from 2005 to 2016.
The WNBA playoffs start on Sept. 14 and will follow a 1-1-1 format for the first round, meaning the Fever will host a playoff game in Indianapolis for the first time since 2015.
As Washington’s season winds down, they have quite of bit of things to think about for next season when it comes to the personnel. With Georgia Amoore set to return from injury, can they score something else in the WNBA Draft that could help. Today’s loss was their 9th straight loss since the trade deadline.
