College Park, MD–
If you look next to the scoreboard on the Lacrosse/Field Hockey complex at Maryland, it certainly is a wall of championships that are undeniably Cathy Reese fueled. Today it was another Reese led Maryland team that put on strong effort to knock off Northwestern to capture the Big Ten Regular season title.
Libby May’s seven goals led Maryland’s (14-1, 5-0 Big Ten) offense. Hannah Leubecker and Grace Griffin also recorded multi-goal games.
Terps goalie Emily Sterling held Northwestern (13-3, 5-1 Big Ten) to its fewest goals since March 6 as the Wildcats snapped a nine-game win streak. Jill Girardi had a hat trick.
The crowd of 2,123 is the biggest at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex since 2018. That was a March 24 contest against James Madison that drew 2,361 to The ‘Plex.
Maryland is now 158-5 at home under Head Coach Cathy Reese.
“This was a very physical game in the second half, and I feel we did a great job controlling the ball and keeping it out of their sticks late in the game,” said Reese.
