Eugene, OR–

Anytime you face a top ranked team and the best touchdown tossing quarterback in college football, you know you are going to have to bring your best offensive game. The Terps just did not do that today in Eugene.

Oregon found some very unconventional ways to score during the second half that included Quarterback Dillon Gabriel finding offensive lineman Gernorris Wilson wide open for a 3-yard passing touchdown, and then offensive lineman Josh Conerly Jr. took a direct snap on a fake extra point and rushed it in for a 2-point conversion. This was enough to take the momentum straight off the Terps sidelines.

The 3-yard scoring pass gave Gabriel 179 total touchdowns for his career. Case Keenum set the previous record for touchdowns responsible for (155 passes, 23 rushes) at Houston from 2007 to 2011.

Billy Edwards passed for 206 yards and one touchdown, but wasn’t able to make much happen in the second half when they really needed to. Several of his down field passes were way off the mark and the rushing he put into the mix was the only thing that actually kept the Terps in contention until the start of the 4th quarter.

Edwards did help the Terps find the endzone with 11:32 and they would finish with a 2 point conversion keeping the Terps alive at 29-18.

It was the final two touchdowns, including the interception of Edwards by Oregon that closed out the night and sent many fans heading for the exits.

“These guys play hard,” head coach Michael Locksley said. “We’re practicing the right way. It’s just not playing to our potential, not playing smart.”
