College Park, MD–
Earlier this week Terps Head Coach Buzz Williams said he was reading books about the History of Maryland athletics… well perhaps in his reading of those books, he has found the way to win back-to-back games in conference play. Tonight, the Terps played every bit as solid as they did against Minnesota on the road and picked up their third Big TEN victory of the season over Iowa, 77-70.
Andre Mills scored 24 points, Diggy Coit added 19 off the bench for the Terps and perhaps Willaims has found the right combination of players on the court to challenge teams late in the game.
On Dec. 6, Iowa eased to an 83-64 victory over Maryland for coach Ben McCollum’s first Big Ten victory. Williams vowed after that game to make it better it better by the next time they faced Iowa, tonight was certainly better than most games this season, not just Iowa.
Mills, who had a career night and his best game since he came to College Park finally seemed to be finding himself and making a huge contribution when they most needed it.
Bennett Stirtz twice got Iowa within three points in the final 20 seconds, but Elijah Saunders made four straight free throws and Coit added two more to seal it.
Next up, the Terps head to Rutgers to play a team where the Terps have a good shot at making it three in a row.
