Charlottesville, VA–
For the first time since 2012, the Terps can say that they again have the edge over the Virginia Cavaliers after a 27-13 victory in Charlottesville.
While the Terps would like to forget their first half performance, where Billy Edwards Jr. was able to move the ball down the field, but unable to find the red zone and had to settle for just one touchdown going into the locker room down 13-7. This is when Tai Felton took over in the second half.
Felton finished the game with nine receptions for 117 yards and one touchdown, which is sure to help continue to keep his rating at the top of FBS receivers.
For the Cavaliers their first and second half efforts were totally different and they started the second half by going three-and-out on the opening possession of the second half, Edwards hit Kaden Prather in the corner of the end zone for a 26-yard touchdown that made it 14-13 with 10:55 to go in the third quarter and Maryland (2-1) led the rest of the way.
“At the half, I just told Billy to settle in and we would get the ball down the field,” said Terps Head Coach Mike Locksley.
One of the biggest differences in the game tonight was the four turnovers by the Cavaliers, this gave the Terps the edge on drive ending plays. You could also feel the energy in the stadium leave after the third turnover. It was almost as if the fans knew that the Cavaliers had no chance of coming back.
After the victory tonight, the Terps now have 14 consecutive non-conference victories, second only to Georgia who has 24 games.
