College Park, MD–
Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse for the Maryland Terps… well it just did as homecoming left Terp fans with a bad taste in their mouth as the Terps suffered their worst loss of the season to Indiana, 55-10.
Maryland had some hope early in this game when they intercepted Fernando Mendoza and took a 3-0 lead early, but unfortunately this was the last sort of offense that the Terps would show the remainder of the game.
After the interception Indiana managed to find a way around the Terps defense and get the ball down the field for a touchdown and a field goal taking a 20-3 lead at halftime.
Going into the locker room at the half the Terps knew they had some work to do, but this game was still within reach that was until they came out and made mistake after mistake. The two fumbles by the Terps in the third quarter and a touchdown by Indiana put the game almost out of reach at 41-10.
Some of the most notables from this game were that Indiana outrushed Maryland 367-37. A good bit of that rushing came from former Terp Roman Hemby, who rushed 18 times for 88 yards along with 110 yards from Kaelon Black. All three of the backs from Indiana used by Head Coach Curt Cignetti scored on the afternoon.’
After the game Cignetti praised his defense and the ability to force Maryland into quite a few mistakes in the game.
“The defense has all year long risen to the occasion when their backs are against the wall,” Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti said. “It wasn’t perfect tonight defensively, trust me. Open-field tackling wasn’t very good, they had some explosive plays. But there’s a lot of good things that are on tape.”
With the Terps searching to find another win in Big Ten play, they will head on the road the next two weekends against Rutgers and Illinois, but it must get better for Locksley or his skid on thin ice may come to a breaking point after next weekend.
