College Park, MD–
It certainly hasn’t been the season that the Terps had hoped, and the last game left many fans wanting to forget about the rest of this season and move on. By the end of tonight’s match-up the frustration by Terps Head Coach Buzz Williams may want him to fast forward to the middle of March really quickly.
Not only did the Terps struggle offensively tonight, they also were very careless with the ball, turning the ball over 14 times tonight in the 92-62 loss, it was enough for Williams to drop to his knees in frustration late in the second half.
The Terps have suffered four 30-point defeats and have dropped their previous three games by a combined 92 points. They are also in danger with the remaining schedule that they could finish the season with under 10 wins for the first time in over three decades.
Maryland had the same problem as they did with Purdue as it took them almost ten minutes to score in double figures in the first half, once they broke into double figures, Ohio State had already built that 20-point lead and they kept it most of the way the entire game.’
The Terps were led by Elijah Saunders with 20 points, but outside of that they had relatively little offensive leadership.
Williams started this game with Diggy Coit on the bench with the hope that he could provide a spark coming in the game in the first half, but the spark wasn’t there and they have not been able to find that scoring guy who has had two, 40-point games this season.
After the game Wiliams was asked about the weak performance again tonight.
“I never want to justify losing in any sort of way, but I think the competitive spirit that they played with. Our guys hustling after one another,” Buzz Williams said. “We didn’t get every 50/50 ball tonight, but we were trying better. I appreciate the resilience and the togetherness amidst all the volatility.”
