Washington, D.C–

Just A Bit of Tension in the USA vs Puerto Rico Game Today

Usually the ESA in D.C hosts the Wizards G League team the GOGO, but today it was a the USA Basketball team that consisted of quite few G League players that took center court in a 95-73 victory over Puerto Rico in the FIBA AmeriCup Qualifying Games.

For most of the Puerto Rico fans in attendance this game was all but over by halftime, but they did have a few highlights and low lights capped by a confrontation at half court between Puerto Rico’s Ramon Clemente and USA’s Eric Mika where they had to be separated at half court. Clemente would play just 9:35 in the entire game after the episode unfolded.

The U.S. limited Puerto Rico to 37.7% shooting from the field (23-61 FGs) and outrebounded Puerto Rico 47-36.

Kyle Fogg (Beijing Royal Fighters/Arizona) led the USA with 18 points and eight assists; Justin Anderson (Long Island Nets/Virginia) finished with 17 points and seven rebounds; Jalen Jones (Capital City Go-Go/Texas A&M) added 14 points; Josh Magette (Lakeland Magic/Alabama-Huntsville) had 11 points; and Eric Mika (Stockton Kings/BYU) tallied 10 points.

Puerto Rico did have a strong fourth quarter where they outscored USA 27-24. They fall to 0-2 in FIBA play after the defeat today.
