Washington, D.C–

After the 2024-25 season finished for the Washington Wizards, the land of uncertainty swirled around until they perhaps found another young superstar in the draft. Can this be the season that the Wizards finally put the young talent to a competitive level in the Eastern Conference?

Here are a few key parts of what was last season and what is the future.

Many will ask can Brian Keefe be the guy that finally gets this young core to gel with the veterans that he has in training camp? Keefe proved at least twice last season that if he had the right players healthy, they could actually win a few back-to-back games.

The big X factor for this season is if Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly can stay healthy and whether the combination of the “seasoned” veterans are going to work together on a nightly basis. The big if starts with Bilal Coulibaly, who will most likely will miss all of training camp and potentially the first part of the regular season after right thumb surgery. The Wizards will start one man in the hole when they travel to Milwaukee to start the season on October 22nd.

General Manager Will Dawkins was asked at Media Day about what is different about this team versus last year. His response to the media was “a lot of stuff was given more than earned. This year, that can’t be the case.”

“I think it’s going to be a really healthy, competitive training camp,” Keefe said Monday. “… This leads to a healthy environment where guys are going to get after it. They’re going to compete. That’s the type of guys we want in our building, so I’m looking forward to [training camp] getting started.”
