Gainesville, VA–

Today started out hot and humid for Round 1 of the LIV Golf Virginia… and you all know what that means… weather and rain delays. Yea, summer can be a little rough and the 107-minute delay might have sent quite a few fans heading for the exits, it didn’t stop the red-hot Bryson DeChambeau from making his mark early.

DeChambeau came out of the delay red hot and finished the day at -5 under and most expect him to carry that through the weekend.

“You come back from a rain delay and usually think you’re going to try and slowly get into a flow,” said DeChambeau, who was 1 under and tied for 18th when play was suspended. “I came out hot.”

Speaking of hot, Cleeks Golf Club Captain Martin Kaymer hit a few hot shots of his own including a birdie on 15th to take the co-lead with DeChambeau.

There are six players tied at 4 under: captains Jon Rahm (Legion XIII), Joaquin Niemann (Torque GC) and Phil Mickelson (HyFlyers GC), along with Smash GC’s Graeme McDowell , Ripper GC’s Marc Leishman and Crushers’ Anirban Lahiri.

Do any of these guys have a shot at catching DeChambeau on Saturday. Rahm appeared to play some of his best golf of the season so far and most likely to make the move tomorrow. Mickelson hinted after his round that this was a very friendly golf course for him and he liked where he sat after the round and said that the weather today should make the conditions even better than today.
