Washington, D.C–
It didn’t take very long for the Wizards to find a guy that can help this team sooner than later when they took Johnny Davis with the 10th Pick in the 2022 NBA Draft
Davis who had a few bouts with injury while at Wisconsin, came on strong during last season and seemed to impress Tommy Sheppard and Wes Unseld Jr.
He was just a three-star recruit coming out of high school, and as a fairly lean 6-4 wing, he’s a bit smaller than teams would hope for out of a lottery pick at his position. What he might lack in terms of physical tools, he more than made up for with his production.
The Wizards have quite a bit of things looming around Bradley Beal and whether he will return to the Wizards and if they need to move forward without Beal this season, Sheppard is looking to get role players that can step right in and make a difference.
The Wizards have gotten sort of mixed results from their last three first-round picks that included Corey Kispert, Deni Avdija and Rui Hachimura. Now, they hope they’ve found a steady contributor at No. 10.
If Davis can come in and produce the same way Kispert did this past season and they can get some consistency from Deni and Rui, which would be health and scoring, the Wizards could possibly contend for a playoff spot this season. Otherwise, if it is like last season, they may have another season of head scratching of what could have been.
