Washington, D.C–
The Washington Wizards had quite a bit of optimism starting the season, after tonight, one would wonder what needs to change to make something work with this team. After again staying close in the first half, the Wizards failed to find ways to contain Cleveland in a 135-116 loss.
While the Wizards did quite a few things wrong tonight, they however seem to find a bright spot in their line up with the strong play by second year forward Bilal Coulibaly who finished with a career-high 23 points on 9/16 shooting to go along with four triples and six rebounds. It is just most of the second half they would like to forget about.
After starting the second half with some energy on a dunk by Kyle Kuzma, it seemed to go south from that point.
The Cavaliers scored 12 unanswered points to take a 71-55 advantage — their largest lead of the game.
Cleveland was led by Donovan Mitchell who got off to a slow start but ignited in the second half and finished with 30 points.
Darius Garland also had 23 points, and Evan Mobley scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Cleveland remained perfect three games into their new season.
Next up for the Wizards a road trip to Atlanta for their first road game of the season against Trae Young and the Hawks. Can they find a way to stop Young and his domination of the Wizards over the past two seasons?
