Washington, D.C–
When a team gets off a hot start, there is a lot to be said about what can happen during the season. For the Wizards, this has not been the norm to talk about a hot start in recent years, but this chemistry just looks different. Tonight against the Hawks was nothing short of another solid team effort.
In previous games like this one against the Hawks, it would have been give the ball to Beal, give the ball to Beal, well tonight they did that and they had some great defensive play by the entire team including a few more highlight reels courtesy of Montrezl Harrell.
Four Wizards scored 20 or more points, led by Beal with 27, Harrell with 25, while Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 11 each.
There have not been too many times where we have talked about Washington leading at halftime in game by ten, which they did here, 64-55 and then have them finish a game strong like tonight for the second like they did against the Celtics.
Beal had 17 of his points in the first half on 8-of-16 shooting. Still, they allowed the Hawks to shoot 55 percent from the field. If it weren’t for a strong rebounding game, they have been playing from behind for most of this contest.
For the Hawks, it appears that Trey Young is having a tough time finding his ways as he did last season. Time will tell if they are going to be a competitor come playoff time. One thing is for sure, if the Wizards continue to play this well early and pick up some quality victories against teams like the Hawks and Celtics, it will make life easier in the second half of the season.
Next up for the Wizards, another early rematch against the Celtics on Saturday night.
