Washington, D.C–
After last night’s game against the Timberwolves, Ted Leonsis and Wizards Management had seen enough of this wasted season, that as of this morning, they had relieved Wes Unseld Jr. of his coaching duties and moved him into the front office. He will be replaced by Brian Keefe in the Interim.
Keefe joined the Wizards’ staff this season after stops with the Brooklyn Nets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks. During his time under two different coaching staffs with the Thunder, he worked with Wizards president Michael Winger and GM Will Dawkins in OKC. Keefe was a part of the 2012 Thunder coaching staff that advanced to the NBA Finals.
Our only question is why did it take 36 games of embarrassment on most nights to make a change? Why two weeks before the All-Star break? You would have to look at some of these games and say it can’t just be Wes, the assistants have to be making some of the calls as well? Some nights the team was completely awful and other nights you wondered why Wes had both Kuzma and Poole on the bench at the same time when they needed that fourth quarter push. Oh well, that era is now behind us and it’s time for the new management to pick up the pieces and figure the next steps for the team.
