Washington, D.C–
In another one of those must have game for the Wizards, the result was the exact opposite of what they would have wanted from a high scoring battle against Bucks.
Bradley Beal scored 33 points for the Wizards, who remain 10th in the East and in line for the final play-in tournament spot. Kristaps Porzingis added 24 points and 14 rebounds for Washington, lost for the second time at home in two nights.
If there is one thing that is going to stand out from this game, it is the box score numbers from long range for the Wizards. They went a horrific 8 for 31 from behind the arc and not much better at 46-108 shooting, yet they were able to stay in the game until the final 30 seconds.
Thats when Giannis Antetokounmpo took over with a quick bucket in the final 15 seconds, all part of his final tally of 23 points to go along with a season-high 13 assists and 10 rebounds for his fourth-triple double of the season.
Jevon Carter added 20 points while shooting 6 of 10 from beyond the arc, and Jrue Holiday scored 19 in Milwaukee’s victory just one game after Philadelphia snapped a 16-game win streak.
“We got a few stops in that final minute that kept us in it. However, we didn’t have the best shot selection in the fourth quarter. I thought for most of the game we kept Giannis well defended, but they found those open shots from long range that cost us,” said Wes Unseld Jr.
Kyle Kuzma had to sit out tonight after he injured his right knee in a collision in Saturday’s overtime loss to Toronto. “We’ve just got to give it a day or two to calm down,” said Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr.
If the Wizards are going to make a run, it really needs to happen this week. They head to Detroit, then another series of back-to-back games against Atlanta this week. If they win all three of these games, there is a chance they can stay alive for that 8th and final spot.
