Washington, D.C–
Coming into the game tonight against the Brooklyn Nets, it was clear that someone had to be the better of the cellar dwellers… but who was really going to drop to rock bottom tonight, that was the bigger question. Well Wizards fans, we have the new worst team in the Eastern Conference.
Starting this game the Wizards had quite a bit of optimism after the first quarter it was deadlocked at 28, but that is where the wheels fell of the bus going to victory land.
The Wizards bounced back with an 8-0 run down the final stretch of the second quarter. However, they continued to struggle finding the right scoring combinations Washington and it got even worse Alex Sarr, who picked up his fourth foul with 2:15 to play in the period. Without their leading scorer on the season, Brooklyn stayed ahead 63-53 at halftime, overcoming 11 turnovers leading to 16 Washington points by that point.
Kyshawn George led the Wizards in scoring with 29 points. CJ McCollum added 17 points and Khris Middleton 14 for Washington, which shot 35% (12 for 34) from 3-point range and 44% (37 for 84) overall.
Washington fell to 0-6 at home and lost for the 12th time in 13 games this season. The Wizards last won on Oct. 24, at Dallas (117-107), in the second game of the season.
One of the biggest takeaways from this game is that the Nets had 11 turnovers in the game and the Wizards could not find any way to score of those and cut into the Nets lead late in the game. This game was still close at the half 63-53, this is when the Nets would not look back.
The Nets opened the fourth quarter on a 14-4 run and increased their lead to 20 points at 108-88.
Washington would go over 2 minutes from 4:24 to 1:57 remaining in the game without scoring.
The Wizards will have a few days to regroup before heading to Minnesota on Wednesday to start a three-game road trip.
