Boston, MA–
During the first quarter of the game tonight in Boston, it appeared that the Wizards with a strong start behind Alex Sarr might actually make something of a Jayson Tatum less Celtics… we then it all went downhill after scoring 37 points in the first quarter.
Alex Sarr continued to show he is a premier all-around player for this Wizards team finishing with a team high 31 points on 12 for 20 shooting from the field as well as 4 for 5 from long range, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Wizards from falling to 1-7 on the season.
Boston took control midway through the second quarter behind Jaylen Brown, who finished with a game high 35 points in just 25 minutes on 13 for 21 shooting from the field.
Brown, who has been the heavy go to guy on the Celtics with Tatum out of the line-up after his surgery to repair his Achilles tendon, which happened in the second round of the playoffs against the Knicks. With little doubt on Tatum’s ability to return for this season, Brown has been the Celtics guy with a little help from Payton Pritchard. Tonight all 5 of the Celtics starters scored in double figures.
What is really defeating here for the Wizards tonight is that they had nothing to answer the Celtics with and when they were down as many as 33 points in the fourth quarter with many of the Celtics starters on the bench, they never really made it a game.
Washington made one small run when Sarr hit a three pointer with 7:48 remaining cutting the lead to 22 at 111-89. They scored just 4 points in almost a 2-minute span and the Celtics spread the lead to 120-91 with 6:01 remaining.
The Wizards have not beaten the Celtics in nine tries since March of 2023.
Next up for the Wizards a trip to Cleveland to face the Cavs who are 5-3 on the season.
Notable for tonight: It appears that Jaylen Brown’s hairline may have an appearance when a drive on Keyshawn George left a dark spot on his undershirt.
