Over the past week we have popped into quite a few of the NBA Summer League games and over the first three games the Wizards have played, they have had a few solid showings from players that you might not expect to be that guy.
One guy in particular that we like is Bub Carrington, who over the three games has perhaps surprised some people even quite a few of the scouts in the stands were impressed with this pick by the Wizards. Tonight, he finished with 20 points in 31 minutes of action. His first two games had him scoring 19 and 18 points against the Rockets in loss on Sunday.
Another big story line is the struggles of Alex Sarr. Tonight, against the Blazers he dropped a goose egg on the scoring line and really has struggled to get it going consistently in the first three games.
Sarr’s 0-for-15 from the field (0-for-7 from 3-point range) against the Blazers, finishing the game with zero points, nine rebounds, three steals, two blocks, two assists and two turnovers in a 82-80 loss. He is contributing to other places on the box score, but as the No.2 pick, they many of the NBA experts have been looking for more from him that just has not been there quite yet.
You could say that Sarr had a pretty good defender in Donovan Clingan on him that made the difference, but Clingan wasn’t the only guy they had to worry about, but he did finish with eight points, 13 rebounds, five blocks, two assists and three turnovers.
Washington will round out the Summer League with a match-up against Sacramento on Thursday night. Should they win this game they could stay in contention to move on, if not they will leave Vegas with a 1-3 record and a few things to figure out how this roster plays itself out before the start of training camp.
