New York, NY–
After the performance last night by the Hoyas, there was so much hope that the same team we saw last night dominate Villanova would show up and give us hope that perhaps we could repeat what happened in 2021. This was until we played UConn for the third time this season… and well… the results completely different than the previous two games and now the Hoyas head home and prepare for a reboot.
The Hoyas really had no dominant player at any point in this game and allowed for the Huskies to get out to a 11-point lead at the half, which was in part that Dan Hurley did a great job shutting down Julius Halaifonua, who managed just 10 points in 12 minutes tonight.
Another notable disaster for the Hoyas tonight was that they shot just 2 for 16 from long range and didn’t hit that second three pointer until late in the second half. The Huskies pushed the Hoyas into at least 7 ill-advised shots in the second half.
Georgetown failed to have that x-factor like they did last night and it was almost if Dan Hurley watched quite a bit of film and found a way to shut down Kayvaun Mulready who scored 3 points in 27 minutes tonight.
UConn gave the Hoyas a huge dose of Freshman Braylon Mullins, who led the way early with 15 first-half points and it was those that helped the Huskies build an early lead that Cooley could not find a way to answer. He had quite a few open looks that helped him finish with 21 points on the night.
With the loss the Hoyas end a mini season ending run with lots of questions as to how they can improve not only with a healthy team, but what can they add in the portal to make this team relevant in 2026-27. Quite a few questions remain about whether Ed Cooley can lead this team back to where Hoyas fans would like them to be. Year 4 has to be a make or break for this team. This off season is going to be wild on the Hilltop in many ways.
