Chapel Hill, NC–
After a season of ups and downs for Brenda Frese and the Maryland Terps women’s basketball team, it seems as if they have found the right time to start surging. The 99-67 victory over Murray State, showed the NCAA selection committee that the #4 seed in the tournament should have gone to the Terps and they should have been playing at home to start March Madness.
After the game many in Chapel Hill were left wondering why were the Terps so dominate today? Mir McLean… that’s why.
Against Murray State, she had 19 points, a season high, as well as 14 rebounds, also a season high. She also finished the day with a double-double. McLean made a huge difference in the second half those 9 offensive rebounds gave Maryland plenty of second-chance opportunities. This allowed the Terps to continue to build that double digit lead deep into the second half.
Addi Mack added 18 points, while Yarden Garzon had 12 points and Saylor Poffenbarger added 10 points for fifth-seeded Maryland,
Most notable advantage for the Terps in the second half was the 26-8 scoring in the fourth quarter to close out the game.
“Clearly we had a lot more size on them,” Maryland coach Brenda Frese said. “I think it begins there. It also just comes down to will and a want and a desire.”
